About pctrs

pctrs.app - A quiet place for your pictures. · Why pctrs

pctrs is an ad-free home for photography. Nothing is ranked and nothing learns from you. No counts are public and nothing is sold. Each member has a cabinet, shown as a filmstrip or a montage. The home wall reshuffles everyone's work on every visit, weighted for freshness and for fairness between members.

How it works

Originals are stored as uploaded, up to 60 MB each. Open a photograph and tap 1:1 to view the full-size file on the lightboard. The wall and cabinets use smaller copies so pages load quickly.

Photographs keep their EXIF, tags and location. Location can be hidden in settings. Signed-in members appreciate a photograph with a heart. There are no public counts. A comment can be left after appreciating a photograph. Comments carry real names, and each photographer moderates the comments on their own work.

On Android and desktop Chrome, pctrs installs as an app.

A cabinet, not a vault

pctrs shows photographs. It is not a backup service. Originals are kept as uploaded and the site is backed up by its host, but for now pctrs runs on one set of servers with no second site standing by. The aim is for your photographs to stay reliably available: the usual care is in place today, and as members come, resilience grows with them, as far as the money allows. Keep your own copies. Settings has a download of every original with a file of titles, captions, tags and locations.

Support pctrs

pctrs runs on member support, not ads. A free cabinet is 5 photographs (30 MB). Create one here or in the app. Support is yearly and opens more room:

Cabinets are measured in photographs or megabytes at 5 MB per photograph, whichever fills first. When a year ends without renewal nothing is deleted: the cabinet keeps every photograph, uploads pause while it holds more than the free five, and the chip goes. Each invite that becomes a supporting member adds 2 photographs to your cabinet.

Room is bought in the pctrs app for iPhone and iPad, through the App Store. It is one cabinet: pctrs.app opens the same photographs from any computer, tablet or phone. If you find the site useful or encouraging, a tip of any size helps carry its development. The money pays for the servers first, then RFRMD Word Labs projects. Nothing goes to charity until both are covered. What is left after that is divided in proportion to contributions and given to each member's chosen charity. That part is not built yet: once the site reaches 500 supporting members, development turns to it, starting with a service that vets charities, so the promise can be kept as written.

Create a free cabinet, or write with a question first. Members follow the house rules. What pctrs keeps is on the privacy page; how to reach a person is on the support page. pctrs is an rfrmdwordlabs.com project.
